INSPIRATION POINT
Mountain Traditional - Elk Horn Reserve - Fraser, Colorado
This new residence is located at Inspiration Point in Elkhorn Reserve, off County Road 8. The site is a large south facing lot with uninterrupted views of the Continental Divide, the Winter Park Ski Area, and Byers Peak. This large house is broken down into three structures; the main house, the master bedroom suite and the garage with a caretaker’s suite above it, connected by links.
The axis of the main house is aligned with the Winter Park Ski area. Large porch roofs and overhangs shelter the main house from the intense summer sun. The great room is defined by massive stepped wooden trusses and timbers. The room is anchored on one end by a large stone fireplace and chimney, while the other end is anchored by a large stone element that surrounds the stove and mirrors the fireplace.
The link from the main house to the master suite is light filled and gives separation between the two structures. It is covered in stone and rusted metal panels. The axis of the master bedroom aligns with Perry Peak and brings morning light into the suite. The suite contains large separate closets and a small work space. Below the master suite is a home gym, bath with steam shower and an in-ground resistance pool. These spaces have direct access to a private sunny patio, with an outdoor fireplace and pizza oven.
Under the main house is a music listening room designed around the owner’s music collection and equipment. There are also two large guest suites, wine storage and a laundry room.
The garage holds three cars and a wood shop. Adjacent to the garage is a light filled gear room/mud room. Above the garage is a one bedroom caretakers suite with vaulted ceilings and its own private deck. The bathroom and the kitchen are located in large dormers to bring in light.
