Peter Nelson and his family have lived in the Fraser Valley since 1999, moving here from Denver to allow his sons to follow their passion for ski racing and freestyle skiing. Peter and his wife Peggy Smith are very active in the community, volunteering and giving back to the communities that have given so much to their family. He is an outdoor enthusiast, who loves skiing, mountain biking and hiking.

Peter is a licensed architect based in Winter Park and Boulder. He is an accredited professional by the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. He has been involved in several projects that been awarded LEED silver and platinum recognition. He studied architecture at the University of Colorado at Boulder and received his master degree from the University of Illinois. His designs have been published in both local and national publications. During his 40 years in the profession, he has worked for some of the country’s and region’s best architects.

The firm practices an architecture that is simple and direct, expressive of structure and purpose and committed to both human comfort and environmental sustainability. The thoughtful designs are a direct reflection of the client and shaped by the site it sits within.

Each project starts with listening to the client’s goals, programs, budget, desires and thoughts. Understanding the site is also important. Where the views are, the path of the sun, the direction of the wind and the contours of the ground play a significant role in the design solution. Loose sketches and 3 dimensional models are used during the design process.

Collaboration with the client, interior designer and the contractor is integral to our approach, as we refine the design. Detailed documentation of the design allows the contractor to build the structure with minimal questions and change orders. The result is inspiring architecture, both artful and practical.
